We have begun to appreciate eating at home. With the birth of our first grand kid, time around the table with the kids is that more meaningful. I've stockpiled coupons for 2 months now and am using them. So at some point I may be able to spend half that amount. This weeks menu will be veggy chili, vegetable soup, spaghetti w/homemade sauce, tacos, homemade fish and chips. Then night of left overs. The resaon for the higher budget is because this is the week that I do all the baking and cooking for the month. Then the stocking of the freezer for the month. I am learning to use the coupons and methods of doing so. I have enjoyed this past week just because I have made some great meals from just walking to one of my 3 freezers and putting together and baking.

This month is about storing all our apples and tomatoes. And we are prepping our soil for next years garden. We discovered that yellow cucumbers work really well, and squash is one of the easiest vegetables to grow. We are going to dedicate a whole raised bed to the veggie. And we are taking away from our dogs and making 4 more raised beds to grow new things. We did grow to much lettuce, and we are going to experiment with little hothouses this winter and fall. I am grateful that what we did try worked. The onions, though not so much.

4

The Plan for the Week of October

Today I made 30 homemade bean and cheese burritos, and 15 cheese and broccoli homemade hotpockets. I have just started using coupons as well. I do not know if I will be an "extreme couponer", none the less, I am going to to learn the tricks of the trade from some very best in the business.

I am finding some excitement in the project, because budgeting is not something that I am familiar with. A lot has happened personally. But, as I learned in church on Sunday a few weeks ago from pastor Brandon Beal http://www.fightpastor.com/. Is this, in the goo of life, we should strive to find the positive. And that has been the result of these past 9 months. The positive, though my relationship with one of my daughters is to say at the least a little strained right now. But, the positive is that out of the chaos come the blessing of a grandchild. I am not ready to admit I am a going to be a grandma as of yet. But, every child brought into this world is a blessing. And, she has brought a nice young man into the fold of our family. And, with time wounds do heal. Second, in pastor Christian Lindbeck's sermon (podcast
http://www.canyoncreekchurchonline.com/ ) I was reminded that life is to be enjoyed, lived, and loved. God does not want us to lock ourselves in the house from the world. We are to love being in this world and sharing his love with others in how we live our lives. Not in how we shouldn't live our lives. It is in the HOW and NOW.

And, now I am privileged to participate in new challenge Project Food Budget. It is a process of planning a budget for your household and implement it. It is a 52 week project and I and a few other bloggers are doing this together. So come along and see me challenge myself financially, spiritually, and personally.

Blessing,
Jenn

What, not again!

Well, here we are in 2011. And I am sure that you have made and attempt at making some resolutions for the new year. I am here to tell you it is OK. But be realistic. By setting simple goals that are attainable is the best way to do so. When we set really high goals, we sometimes set ourselves up for failure. I know for one, that I myself am guilty as charged. I want to see others reach their own goals. So, I am going to set my goals out for the cyberspace world to see.

My personal goals are pretty simple, and I know that I can reach the final goal. What I have read. What I have experienced. And how I have learned from my own meager attempts at reaching my goals is this. Break them down into smaller steps. Make it a journey, and have an enjoyable time as well. By setting daily goals, weekly goals, and monthly goals. Your putting yourself into realistic situations to reach the final goal. The knowledge and experience you attain while on the journey to your final destination will make you a better person for doing so. And when you reach that final goal, you will wonder, how did I get here? And realize that it really was not that bad of an experience.

I wish you well on your journey to your final destination and goal. I for one am excited about this journey and what I will learn about myself, my family, my friends, and mostly important how my relationship with God will grow in strength. And you are most likely wondering what the heck is my chosen goal(s). Well to quite blunt. I want to not develop diabetes, or high cholesterol. See I went in for my physical and got the news I feared. I have what my doctor calls pre-diabetes and my cholestrol is dagerously close to being high. So, since I want to get healthy and whole. I am going to learn to love food again. Only this time it will be healthy, wholesome, and I will educate myself about it. Food can be healthy and enjoyable and that is where I get lost. The two for me did not always seem to mix.

I loved the movie Julie and Julia. I loved to watch people enjoy good foods that do not have to be stuffy and pretentious. What was enjoyable about the foods was the whole process in which the two cooks prepared the food. And it was an art and process. FOOD is good. We can build memories around the whole process of eating and cooking. My goal is to of course lose some weight and so forth. I am not going to bore your ears with all the details. I will post weekly details, and break downs of my daily, weekly, and monthly goals. Only once a week though. So come along for the journey...let's learn together to love life, love food (in the good way), and reach those goals.

Peace,
Jenn
